A BRIEF JOURNEY BACK IN TIME...
Let's try to travel with our imagination back in time, to the 1950s... the population of Matera was mostly composed of farmers
who mostly lived in caves carved into the tuff.
Large families lived in precarious hygienic conditions,
in the company of animals with whom they shared their workday.
Palmiro Togliatti, visiting Matera in 1948, did not hesitate to define the Sassi as a "national shame," but only on 17 May 1952,
by the hand of De Gasperi, the "Special Law for the evacuation of the Sassi" was enacted.
A WON BET!
To tell the origins of Morgan Ristorante, we started from that degradation that
history tells us because after 50 years, the Sassi districts are still frozen in their
state of abandonment.
A bet!!! To revive this neighbourhood, this place was created
for young people and families, and thanks to them, the Sassi have been repopulated.
Generations away from the suffering that these places have always kept alive
in the memories of our grandparents.
Created in the English style of the 1800s, Morgan has accompanied generations of young Materans,
the curiosity to visit a themed venue was irresistible, making the place, over the years, a cult in the city of Matera.
Don't be surprised to find locals who will speak of our place with emotion
and affection.
THE TRANSFORMATION
Only in 2011 did Morgan undergo a profound restructuring, becoming a restaurant with typical Lucanian cuisine specialities and overturning the concept of a pizzeria with the introduction of various flours but still maintaining deep traces of the historic English-style venue from the 1800s, so dear to the Materans.
